Chuck Hindes is an American ceramist born in Michigan in 1943. He received his BFA from the University of Illinois and his Masters degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. He was a teacher until he retired from the University of Iowa in 2006. His work is inspired by the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi as he celebrates the imperfections of life in his vessels. With imperfect shapes and weathered surfaces, he is emphasizing contemplation over false perfections. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus at University of Iowa and his work can be found in numerous public and private collections.
