David Louveau de la Guigneraye works between tension and letting go. He is a ceramist who works in porcelain and as he puts it “thus gives as one in the kitchen a certain form of spontaneity.” He learned to work with porcelain from Kinya Ishikawa in the 1990’s when he was a Parisian Firefighter. The work he makes revolves around the principles of Tao and learning to feel before expression.
As far as process goes, by combining a modern firing process with ancient glaze preparation techniques, Louveau creates gesture and emotion from vessels which connect to the world and the long history of pottery. The vessels he creates are mostly tea cups, pots, and jars but also gaiwans, gongdaobei, plates, and vases. To Louveau, porcelain is vital and tea, a way of being. His work has been exhibited internationally and he is always putting on workshops and classes from his studio in Barnum, Sweden.
