Gyozo Furuse is a 7th generation ceramist who manages the original family kilns, a large-scale wood-firing kiln from the Edo Period and smaller kiln from the Shouwa Period. He is a graduate of Kyoto City University of Arts where he learned modern technology and ideas that he infused with familial tradition to create his own style. Furuse works in simple forms completed with rice straw ash glaze and firing in traditional Noborigama. His work follows the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi and is applauded for its subtle beauty, particularly his tea ceremony installments.
