Hiroshi Yamada (b.1974, Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, Japan) is a contemporary ceramic artist known for his fusion of traditional Japanese techniques and modern aesthetics. A graduate of the arts university in Osaka, Hiroshi creates functional and sculptural pieces inspired by natural forms.
The high iron content of Echizen clay is highly fire resistant, ideal for natural wood firing and ash glazing results. Echizen is part of the ancient six kiln sites of Japan and work from this region is highly regarded for its authenticity and deep Japanese aesthetic. His work features organic shapes and rich, layered glazes. His pieces have been exhibited internationally, earning acclaim for their balance, elegance, and innovative use of glaze and form.
