Ken Mihara is a ceramist living and working in Izumo, Japan. The Shimane Prefecture is a region of forests, ravines, and mountains. Izumo, where Mihara grew up and continues to live, is steeped in the inspiration which gave way to the large stoneware he now makes. Without the use of glaze, Mihara’s hand built work takes on the essence of elements and weathered landscapes to so integral to his life that his work becomes self-expression. His work is widely celebrated, receiving many awards, and can be seen in the collections of over 40 institutions across the world.
