Koichi Uchida (b. 1969, Nagoya City, Japan) graduated from Aichi Prefectural Seta Pottery Senior High School with a Ceramics major. After school, he worked as a potter’s wheel grinder in Yokkaichi City, Mia Prefecture. Eventually he left and spent time traveling to many pottery-making regions of the world, an experience which greatly informed his work. In his time traveling he received the duel experience of an artistic and cultural education.
In 1992, Uchida established an independent studio in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, and in 2015, he established the BANKO Archive Design Museum, a private museum dedicated to the promotion of Banko Ware.
Uchida’s style spans a wide variety of techniques, styles, and tradition as he seeks to present his unique perspective informed by tradition and craft.
