Mitch Iburg is a ceramic artist known for his deep connection to local materials and landscapes. Born in 1989 in Hudson, Wisconsin, he earned a BA in Fine Arts from Coe College in 2011. His work emphasizes the integration of place into his art by utilizing natural clay, rocks, and minerals sourced directly from the environment. Through wood-firing techniques, his pieces capture the unique essence, or "terroir," of the regions where they are created.
Iburg has participated in residencies across the United States and abroad, including in Virginia, New York, Denmark, and Estonia. Currently based in Minnesota, he operates Studio Alluvium, which functions as a workspace and showroom. His artistic philosophy seeks to map the physical and emotional characteristics of his materials, forming a narrative tied to the geography and natural resources of each location.
