Moriyasu Kimura is one of the most highly celebrated contemporary tenmoku ceramists in Japan. He was born in Kyoto in 1935 to an artistic family. With a father who specialized in Porcelain painting and both his brothers working in pottery, being a ceramist for Kimura was a natural fit. He did basic ceramic studies at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial arts Research Institute and was quickly sucked into the universe of tenmoku with its brilliant iron glazes. His work can be found in numerous collections across the world and he is frequently exhibited internationally.
