Rafa Pérez’ work is about surprising himself. He combines white porcelain and black earthenware clay, fired at high temperature to create unexpected, volcanic, and natural shapes. His work blends the boundary of ceramics, painting, and sculpture through his expert understanding of material interaction. Pérez was born in Haro, La Rioja, Spain and has been exhibiting work since 1986. Since 2007, he has been a member of The International Academy of Ceramics and at the same time began teaching workshops and participating in conferences. He has received numerous awards for his work which can be seen internationally in public and private collections, exhibitions, and publications.
