Born in 1955 in Seto, Aichi Prefecture in Japan, Takeuchi graduated from Aichi Kiln Training School in 1979 and then established his personal kiln in Seto in 1982.. He started his own studio in 1982. Before becoming a pottery artist, he worked for a Japanese car company. On one pivotal day, Takeuchi had the chance to play with pottery with his friends and thus was the start of his journey with pottery for the next forty years. His primary artistic principle is “Respect and be in awe of nature, for life is part of it. You will be rewarded with great works if you always keep up to your standards.”
Takeuchi’s work can be regarded as both practical and highly decorative as he works with intricate shapes, engraved and colored by hand. By using inlays of different colored clay and then shading and engraving the piece, Takeuchi renders extraordinarily detailed and colorful patterns in a technique evocative of mosaic. His work has been exhibited across the globe and he is renowned for taking expert craftsmanship and connecting it to his dynamic perspective.
