Visitors to Cavin-Morris Gallery are almost always met at the door by our mascot/greeter Bibi, a sloe-eyed enchantress of a dog with a silken tongue and a highly tuned aesthetic sense, mostly due to the diligent tutelage of her artist-owner Caroline Casey, our intense gallery manager.
While, of course, Bibi did not make the artist choices there were some rather interesting and heated and guttural growling discussions. We did allow her to break several stalemates when two pieces were equally desirable, by playing a doggie version of a shell game in which a tender piece of wild boar jerky was placed under one of two ceramic cups. The cup she pawed was linked to the piece that was chosen. That was the full extent of her curatorial input. This show is actually a tribute to some of the artists in the gallery whom we love.
It has been a rich year for artworks coming into our gallery both by artists we represent and by consignments of historical art brut from private collections. We all had our favorites, and many but by no means all, are represented on our walls this summer. It is an international mix, including Ilija Bosilj Bašičević, Leonard Daley, Caroline Demangel, Minnie Evans, Sarvanez Farsian, Carlos Javier García Huergo, Davood Koochaki, Dwight Mackintosh, M’onma, Izabella Ortiz, Jon Serl, Gregory Van Maanen, Scottie Wilson, Joseph Yoakum, Anna Zemánková, and Carlo Zinelli, with a special spotlight on Noviadi Angkasapura,
Our ceramics room includes artworks by: Rob Barnard, Meg Beaudoin, Auguste Elder, Melanie Ferguson, Peggy Germain, Matsumoto Haruyuki, Osamu Inayoshi, Yukiya Izumita, Mami Kato, Kato Tsubusa, Freeda Miranda, Akihiro Nikaido, Rafa Perez, Chris Rond, Phyllis Scudder Sullivan, Shinya Tanoue, Petros Tsakmaklis, and Makoto Yamaguchi.
We hope you enjoy.
